About Chris Shugart
Chris Shugart is a lifelong musician with extensive stage and studio experience. Although no one seemed willing to pay him as a musician or songwriter, they were willing to pay him to design and produce advertising material. Needless to say, Chris has spent most of his professional life in marketing and advertising.
As it turns out, Chris’s first advertising job was the Creative Services Manager for a major record distributor in Southern California. While there, he designed newspaper ads, wrote radio spots, and handled in-store promotion for dozens of store locations throughout California. In the years that followed, Chris worked in a wide variety of industries in different capacities that included agency, in-house, and freelance positions.
More recently, Shugart was the Marketing Manager for Pollstar, a print and online publisher for the live concert industry. While there, he handled online advertising for concert ticket sales, wrote PR copy for music celebrities, and designed and produced sales and tutorial videos. Meanwhile, Chris found time for performing music, and discovered community theater where he sang, acted and danced—often all at the same time.
At the risk of sounding crass, music and advertising do have one thing in common. In either case, the bottom line is communication.
